What Is In Tap Water?

The United Sates has some of the most sanitized tap water in the world but today people are beginning to ask: “what is in tap water?” While tap water has met federal and state standards the epa.gov in 2009 stated that “threats to drinking water are increasing.”

This website is dedicated to the research of tap water and proper ways to truly purify your water.

Who’s In Control of Tap Water?

In 1974 Congress passed the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) to regulate the nation’s public drinking water supply and is administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and state partners. From 1995 to 2000 over $50 billion was spent on investments to fund water quality improvement.

How Do They Treat the Water?

Along with thorough ways of testing the water the EPA uses their budget to treat our Tap Water. Our drinking water comes from surface water or ground water. Surface water is usually lakes, rivers and reservoirs. Ground water is typically pumped from wells drilled into underground aquifers and geologic formations containing water. This water is then pumped to an underground network of pipes that deliver water to our homes and businesses.

Nearly 34 billion gallons of water are treated every day by water utilities. The type of treatment and amount can vary depending on the source and quality of the water with ground water usually requiring more treatment because it is exposed to the atmosphere. They use a variety of treatment processes to remove contaminants.  But most water treatment is done in 5 stages:

  • Coagulation-alum and other chemicals are added to the water to form small sticky particles called floc, which attract solid particles. The combined weight of the floc and solid particles become heavy enough to sink to the bottom during sedimentation.
  • Sedimentation – the heavy particles and floc are allowed to settle on the bottom, and the clear water moves on to the filtration stage.
  • Filtration – the water is passed through many different types of filters to remove anything larger than a water molecule.  This also destroys the water molecule structure.
  • Disinfection – chlorine, fluoride, and chemicals are added to the water to kill off anything that might have survived the previous stages, and also to retard mold, moss and algae growth in the pipes.
  • Storage – the water is stored in closed tanks for disinfection, then run through pipes into homes and businesses.

We are only now beginning to realize that conventional water treatment removes things in the water we need such as trace minerals, and the hexagonal liquid crystalline structure that our bodies require. Tap water is no longer at the proper alkaline pH that we need, devoid of essential trace minerals, and the body has to process the water extensively to be able to use it, putting vital and limited body resources under excess stress. Many common chronic conditions are suspected of being at least partially caused by tap water. However, science is just now discovering cutting edge water treatment technology such a water structuring devices which structure water and may be the answer to cleaner more efficient water treatment in the world.

So Why Does Water Need to Be Treated?

The EPA sites the following as common sources of water pollution:

“Naturally Occurring: microorganisms (wildlife and soils, rdionuclides (underlying rock), nitrates and nitrites (nitrogen compounds in the soil), heavy metals (underground rocks containing arsenic, cadmum, chromium, lead, and selenium), fluoride.

Human Activites: bacteria and nitrates (human and animal wastes-septic tanks and large farms), heavy metals (mining construction, older fruit orchards), fertilizers and pesticides (used by you and others (anywhere crops or lawns are maintained), industrial plants, gas stations, dry cleaners, leaking underground storage tanks, landfills, and waste dumps), household wastes (cleaning solvents, used motor oil, pain, paint thinner), lead and copper (household plumbing materials), water treatment chemicals (wastewater treatment plants).”

EPA also admits that “All sources of drinking water contain some naturally occurring contaminants. At low levels, these contaminants generally are not harmful in our drinking water. Removing all contaminants would be extremely expensive, and in most cases, would not provide increased protection of public health.”

The key word there is “generally” not harmful.

So How Should I Treat My Tap Water?

Unfortunately, that’s not as simple of a question as we once thought it was. Like many human endeavors in our history of science and technology the process of water purification has needed to evolve and still continues to evolve today. For instance, we first thought that adding chlorine to water was a safe way to purify water. Now people are waking up to the realization that chlorine is not safe to drink. So then we moved on to water filters to remove chlorine. But now people are realizing that there is more in water that can be harmful these days than just chlorine such as fluoride and prescription drugs from people flushing them down their toilet from which they enter back into the water supply.

And here are 5 things to consider when buying a water filter:

1. Carbon Filters can actually lower pH by 1 point.

2. Most water filters don’t actually take out all of the toxins in the water.

3. A lot of water filters only get rid of the smell or taste of toxins but the toxins remain in the water.

4. Water has the ability to record memory and most water filters don’t clean the toxic memory of toxins.

5. Water filters might clean out some of the toxins which is great but they don’t revitalize and bring balance and structure back to water, which it used to have.

Now people are waking up to the realization that water holds memory. If you want to learn more about that check out this article on Crystalline Water or read up on Masaru Emoto. Because of this, scientists are beginning to discover that we need something that can erase harmful memory from water before it joins our own electric bio-chemical fluids.

But if you think about how extremely we have altered the natural process of receiving and drinking water from a spring, it makes sense that we would need to go through an extreme process of learning how to return water back to a spring-like-state. This is where the Wu Wei Structured Water Unit comes onto the scene and restructures water and cleans the memory of water the same way nature does.

So if you can, it’s not a bad idea to find a water filter that truly filters out all the toxins in our tap water these days. And it’s definitely a good idea to clean the toxic memory in water by restructuring it with a Wu Wei Structured Water Unit which produces structured water. Not only does this ground breaking technology take us further down the evolutionary path of solving the water filter problems but it will also bring the true balance of nature back to your tap water.
